Background

Dr. Peter is the youngest of the six Evangelista children. He was born and raised in Bloomfield Hills, MI. He attended St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic School from first through eighth grade. In 1998, he was elected President of his class and delivered the valedictory address on graduation day. He then attended the University of Detroit Jesuit High School where he was elected President of the Student Senate during his senior year. He was also the Captain of the Varsity Swimming and Lacrosse teams. He followed the Jesuit education to Boston College where he majored in Pre-Med. He completed his dual-degree in Medicine and Business Healthcare Management at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston from 2007 to 2011. During his four years at TUSM, he was elected President of his class each year, and he delivered the valedictory address on graduation day. He then attended the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. During residency, he was awarded the G. Keith Stillwell Memorial Award for Most Outstanding Research during residency. He subsequently completed his Fellowship in Pain Medicine at Harvard University School of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA.

Dr. Peter moved back to his roots in Michigan in 2016 and has become actively involved in the family business as a staff physician and medical administrator at Maple Manor Rehab Centers in Wayne and Novi, MI. He also owns and operates two private practices in Livonia and Novi, MI. In 2019, he was awarded Hour Detroit’s Top Doctor Award in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. 

Dr. Peter is happily married with his wife, Dr. Kara Steijlen, who specializes in Neuromuscular Medicine. They welcomed their daughter, Zoe, in 2020 and their son, Blake, in 2021, who are the light of their lives.
