Background
Dr. Stella Evangelista graduated from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Manila, Philippines in 1968. Following graduation, Dr. Stella completed her internship at Columbus Hospital in Chicago and her residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, before moving to Michigan for her fellowship in Pediatrics at Wayne County General Hospital. Dr. Stella was affiliated with St. Mary’s Hospital and ran her private practice for 25 years, serving Livonia and nearby communities.

She has received many professional and civic accomplishments and professional awards, some of which include, the first Asian and first Filipino to be a member of the Michigan State Board of Medicine, the first female physician elected to the Presidency of the Association of Philippine Physicians in America, she chaired the first Henry Ford Hospice Annual Fundraising and was awarded the “Physician of the Year” award by the Association of Philippine Physicians in America. Dr. Stella is licensed in the State of Michigan and is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She is married to Dr. Jose Evangelista and together they have six children, four of whom are physicians, one attorney and one real estate developer/broker.
